Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs / 700g) – Lean protein base that bakes beautifully. Thighs also work.
  • 1 packet 1 oz ranch seasoning mix – Provides bold, herby flavor instantly.
  • 1 cup sour cream – Keeps the chicken moist and creamy. Greek yogurt works too.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese – Adds richness and that golden top layer.
  • Optional additions:
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder – Extra depth.
  • Fresh parsley for garnish – Bright finish.

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  3. Prepare the Chicken
  4. Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels.
  5. Drying the chicken helps the topping stick properly.
  6. Mix the Topping
  7. In a bowl, combine sour cream and ranch seasoning until smooth.
  8. Assemble
  9. Place chicken in the baking dish. Spread the ranch mixture evenly over each piece.
  10. Cover every surface to lock in moisture.
  11. Bake
  12. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, depending on thickness. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  13. Do not overcook — use a thermometer for accuracy.
  14. Add Cheese
  15. Sprinkle cheddar over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking. Return to oven until melted and bubbly.
  16. Rest Before Serving
  17. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  18. Resting keeps the juices inside instead of running onto the plate.
