In a bowl, combine sour cream and ranch seasoning until smooth.
Assemble
Place chicken in the baking dish. Spread the ranch mixture evenly over each piece.
Cover every surface to lock in moisture.
Bake
Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, depending on thickness. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
Do not overcook — use a thermometer for accuracy.
Add Cheese
Sprinkle cheddar over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking. Return to oven until melted and bubbly.
Rest Before Serving
Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Resting keeps the juices inside instead of running onto the plate.
